they sound great on record (although their first album "turn on the bright lights" is a billion times better than the new "antics" album), but they bite the big one live. Also, many consider them derivative, which is probably true but "turn on the bright lights" is a very special album to me, it's one of those mushroom records that absorbs the surrounding flavour of life and makes everything more intense and delicious even sadness.
you mean the band? they are from new york & their first album Turn on the Bright Lights was very intense, gloomy kind of rough sound, i think you might like it? :) find out more at their website http://www.interpolnyc.com. i somehow wasn't thrilled with their latest release. it was titled Antics, if i am not mistaken.
M, they're good and both album are too and that guy who said is right: they have an eighties feel to them- yeah, a tinge of joy division.... but darker and chilly. they're good live, too. saw them with The Cure! what a perfect combo- a depressive band after another.... i think the singer looks a bit like Kurt Cobain... the only thing i somewhat dislike about them is the matching/but not matching outfits...well, at least (most of the time) it's black.
My friend said he first saw them live & loves them now. I really don't like Interpol, I find the music bland and don't see the connection with Joy Division at all - I'm pretty sure Paul feels the same way, and we both like Joy Division. I don't know, Interpol just bores me.
It sort of bothers me they keep listing Joy Division as inspiration. Joy Division is likely my favorite band of all time and I also don't see the connection! Untitled #1 (the first track from Turn On...) is still special to me though.

having "grown up" in the 80's, they sound a lot like Joy Division to me, the singer reminds me of Ian Curtis on many occasions.
